Inaugural Strategy Essentials Course

Strategic Education International Conducts Inaugural Strategy Essentials Course in December 2018

Strategic Education International is pleased to announce that it will conduct its first “Strategy Essentials” course in Washington DC during December 2018. The mid-career executive education course is designed as a first offering to equip military and civilian strategists and foreign area officers.

The multi-week course includes seminar based instruction, exercises and site visits. The highly interactive nature of the course equips students to operate in a joint, interagency and international environment to formulate resource and implement effective national security strategies. Aimed at mid-career professionals, the course is a first offering that enables professionals to operate in the strategic environment and establishes a basis for professional development through follow on education and assignments.

Designers and principal faculty for the course are Dr. Susan Bryant and Dr. Mark Troutman. Bryant and Troutman bring a combined six decades of military, academic and executive education experience to the course. They have coordinated for participation by military leaders, key personnel across the interagency and thought leaders from think tanks and academia. An innovative two day exercise conducted with Motive International will provide students a hands-on introduction to design theory and systems thinking based on the proven Stanford Design School methods.

The course will provide students with a host of basic skills and contacts across the interagency combined with a working knowledge of strategic references and doctrine. A key feature of the course is its design to reach elements of the strategy community that are under served by the existing professional military education system. The first course has already been well received and planning for a second course for Spring 2019 is underway.
